individual psychotherapy & couples counseling specialist

My name is Brittany O’Brien, MA, LPC. I am an individual psychotherapist and couples therapist with expertise in trauma-informed work and relationship issues.

Couples often find me when they’re stuck in painful cycles—recurring arguments, emotional distance, or intimacy that feels strained or disconnected. Many of the partners I work with carry individual trauma histories that show up in the relationship in ways they don’t fully understand. My work focuses on helping couples slow down these patterns, understand the emotions and needs underneath, and build a safer, more connected way of relating.

My approach integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method (Level 2), and IFS‑informed trauma work. This combination allows me to help partners de-escalate conflict, repair attachment injuries, and rebuild emotional and physical intimacy.

I also work with individuals who want to understand their own patterns, process trauma, anxiety, depression, or navigate major life transitions including postpartum,

In addition to my couples and trauma training, I have extensive perinatal and postpartum education through Postpartum Support International. This background strengthens my work with clients navigating the complex emotional landscape of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

I understand the weight of choosing to embark on the therapy journey and I do not take the opportunity lightly. In working together, you will be inviting me into a very vulnerable space of your life which can be incredibly challenging. I aim to create a space where clients feel a strong sense of safety and empowerment, while maintaining strong engagement. I do not operate as a passive clinician and I will be working hard alongside you to establish a relationship that feels more secure, connected and fulfilling.
